For the Initial Operating Segment, two concepts were presented, a North one and a South one. Each would serve the Valley. Fresno and Bakerfield are included in each. The North is anchored at San Jose. The South woud be anchored at a station in the San Fernando Valley. Below is a map depicting the concepts.
Interestingly, CHSRA staff forwards that each segment would operate at a profit. Meaning, fare revenue would be greater than operating costs. A chart indicates the South concept would be more profitable than the North. By over 50% more. That is significant. Probably not suprising considering that the South has a much greater population.
If I had to select the North or South concept to work with at the outset... I'd choose the South. More riders and greater Operating Profit. The political perspective might offer a different perspective. For that, I'd more time to consider.
